VISUAL SURF
Hey, my name is Simon. I've been working as a surf instructor and lifeguard for several years and have looked after clients from all over the world at various surf camps. About four years ago, I accidentally taught a group of deaf people to surf for several weeks in Morocco. I didn't know any sign language and quickly realized that a surf course would be much easier and more inclusive if I could communicate in sign language. For this reason, I am now studying sign language interpreting and am committed to making surfing more accessible and easier for people with hearing impairments.
I founded Visual Surf for this purpose. Visual Surf combines surfing with sign language and offers surfing in Swiss German Sign Language (DSGS). The events are open to anyone who can communicate in DSGS. Whether deaf, hard of hearing or hearing; whether cochlear implant, hearing aids or no hearing aid: everyone is welcome!
